Gaby & Mat
Some weddings are memorable because of the beautiful details. Others are memorable because of the journey that brought everyone there. Gaby and Mat's celebration was both.
I had the privilege of working with Gaby for four years, so when she asked me to help plan her wedding, I was absolutely overjoyed. Little did we know that their wedding story would unfold in a way none of us could have anticipated.
With an exciting opportunity taking them to Paris for a year, Gaby and Mat found themselves needing to organize a last-minute elopement before leaving the country. With the help of Jesse, who stepped in as officiant, we transformed a boardroom at our day-job office into a wedding venue. Surrounded by colleagues serving as witnesses, Gaby and Mat exchanged their vows before embarking on their next adventure together.
Despite the last-minute nature of the day, there were still little moments that made it uniquely theirs—including the matching Puma socks they wore during the ceremony. It was one of those fun, unexpected details that perfectly captured their personalities and became a memorable part of their story.
A year and a half later, after returning home, it was finally time to celebrate the way they had always envisioned.
From Ottawa to Hamilton we went, bringing their vow renewal and reception closer to the family and friends who had been cheering them on from afar. This time, there was the white dress, the suits, the flowers, and a room filled with loved ones ready to celebrate the couple properly.
The décor reflected Gaby and Mat perfectly—elegant, timeless, and beautifully understated. I was honoured to create the floral arrangements, adding another personal touch to a day that already meant so much to me.
One of the most special moments came during the vow renewal ceremony itself. Jesse once again officiated, recreating the ceremony he had led during their intimate office celebration more than a year earlier. To honour where their journey began, we also made sure to incorporate their iconic Puma socks into the day. It was a fun and meaningful nod to that first ceremony and a reminder that even the smallest details can become cherished memories.
Later during the reception, we surprised guests by sharing the video from their original wedding day. It was such a meaningful way to include family and friends in a chapter of their story that many had not been able to witness firsthand. There were plenty of smiles, laughter, and more than a few happy tears as everyone watched the moment that started it all.
The celebration that followed was everything they deserved and more. Surrounded by the people who loved them most, guests filled the dance floor and celebrated long into the night. The energy in the room was unforgettable, and I can honestly say I have rarely seen so much joy on a dance floor.
After waiting so long to celebrate with their family and friends, every moment felt that much sweeter. It was a privilege to be part of both chapters of their wedding story—from an intimate last-minute ceremony to a beautiful vow renewal and reception filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Congratulations, Gaby and Mat. Your journey may not have followed the traditional timeline, but it was perfectly your own, and it was an honour to help bring it to life.
